Russell is available for consultancy work, and tackles a wide range of projects. However, he is not an agency (though he works with many, when the need arises) and so he does not take on 'standard' projects, such as conventional web design, for example. He prefers innovative, hard projects, often trouble-shooting and problem-solving, and is often involved in the early stages of innovation, providing creative input, research and design. His expertise is in understanding and translating user needs and issues into strategies and solutions.

He also offers advice on information architecture, website organisation, usability, evaluation, especially usability and user experience.

He is usually engaged to provide an independent perspective, often most useful in the design, review, or problem-solving phases of a system's life, but can also offer a full service to clients by project-managing a major undertaking and working with colleagues and other companies, bringing in just the specialist skills that are needed to take a project to completion.

Past clients include: Vodafone; BT; BMW; Defence Evaluation Research Agency; Department of Work and Pensions; PartyPoker; PokerStars; major Swiss bank; mortgage websites; i-nexus; many SME's and startups.
